For more than 30 years, UCI MIND has been committed to cutting edge research to understand and better treat Alzheimer’s disease. Funded through a P50 Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center grant from the National Institute on Aging and previous Steering Committee site in the Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study, UCI MIND has a rich tradition of human subjects research and clinical trials in the fields of brain aging and cognitive disorders. Our mission is to discover means to improve the lives of people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia through discovery of new treatments and diagnostic biomarkers. On going trials aim to investigate therapies for preclinical, prodromal, and dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease. A major challenge of completing each of these types of trials is the timely enrollment of participants who will enable adequate examination of therapeutic hypotheses. To that end, UCI MIND is dedicated not only to the to conduct of AD trials, but also to the science of recruitment and retention. Our talented faculty and staff have devoted their lives to making a difference in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.
UCI MIND’s co-director, Dr. Joshua Grill, works extensively in the areas of clinical trial recruitment and retention, as well as clinical trials of novel treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. He has served as Principal Investigator for fifteenclinical trials and is a recognized expert in the science of trial recruitment.Dr. Aimee Pierce, Medical Director of the Memory Assessment Research Center, completed her neurology residency at UCLA and fellowship in geriatric neurology and dementia at UC San Diego / VA San Diego. She has expertise in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, and serves a Principal Investigator on numerous clinical trials of new therapies for dementia. Beatriz Yanez, RN, Clinical Research Coordinator, and Robin Lawrence, NP, Research Clinician, have a combined 20 years of experience on clinical trials of investigational treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, serving as clinicians, coordinators, and psychometricians.
